Workaround for Snow Leopard and Huawei modems

So, you've upgraded to Snow Leopard, and you realise - DAMN! it doesn't work with my Huawei 3G modem!

You search around for the 64-bit mac driver (cos Snow Leopard is now fully 64-bit, in theory), but nothing works.

Here is a workaround, which I found, works, and doesn't require any other drivers. Again, this is presuming you UPGRADED from Leopard (10.5) and everything was working fine in 10.5

1. plug in your 3G dongle. let it detect
2. goto System Preferences
3. select Network
4. on the left, you should see HUAWEI Mobile. select it
5. once selected, on the right, you should see a "connect" button. click on it

viola! you're connected

I have not tried whether this method works with a brand new installation of Snow Leopard, because maybe they have updated the drivers etc. Maybe you might need to install the default programme included in the dongle first, then the HUAWEI Mobile will be available in System Preferences > Network

hope this helps!
